  • Now until June 1st  Registration for City of Laurel 2026 Summer Youth Baseball Season  

    Takes place at Laurel's Parks & Recreation Office.

    The program offers leagues for various age groups, including T-Ball, Coach Pitch, and Player Pitch, with a registration fee of $30.

    Additionally, the city is seeking volunteer coaches and assistant coaches, all of whom must pass a mandatory background check.

  • Monthly until July 7th Hattiesburg Zoo Is hosting a series of Homeschool Days with each session focusing on a specific animal habitat.

    Programs run from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., but participants can enter at 8:30 a.m. for exclusive early access before the public arrives.

    The sessions focus on the following.

    \ May 5th: Deserts

    \ June 2nd: Wetlands

    \ July 7th: Jungles

    Students will explore four self-paced activity stations throughout the zoo followed by a special animal encounter at the Giraffe Pavilion.

    The morning also features a Nature Swap, where children can trade nature-based treasures with zoo staff and other participants.

    After the scheduled activities conclude, families are invited to stay and enjoy the zoo at their leisure for the remainder of the day.

    Advanced reservations are required, with discounted rates available for annual zoo pass holders.

  • May 4th  May the Fourth in the Alley This free, family-friendly Star Wars-themed street party takes place at the Hattiesburg Pocket Museum from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. 

    The event features live music from the long-running Star Wars franchise performed by the Southern Miss Sax Chamber Orchestra, a costume contest for all ages and pets, galactic bingo, and much more.

  • May 7th 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Mississippi Take place at the Ellisville State School with the run beginning at 1:30 p.m.

    Law enforcement officers, serving as the "Guardians of the Flame," will carry the torch through campus as part of a statewide journey leading to the Summer Games opening ceremonies.

    Community members are encouraged to cheer on the runners with proceeds directly benefiting local Area 17 athletes.

  • May 7th "History Makers, Future Shapers"  Hattiesburg's Sixth Street Museum District will host a free educator appreciation event at the Historic Eureka School from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

    Greater Hattiesburg teachers can enjoy museum tours, prize giveaways, and complimentary treats from Smith’s while exploring resources to support their classrooms.

    The evening is open to all area education professionals aged 21 and older who provide a valid school ID at check-in.

  • May 16th Laurel-Jones Co. Library Car, Truck, Jeep Show Takes place from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 5:30 Commerce Street in Laurel. Registration takes place from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. ($20 per vehicle; swag bags available for the first 100 participant).

    Attendees can enjoy food vendors, raffles, and a tour of the Library Trolley before the award ceremony begins at 12:30 p.m.

    This family-friendly fundraiser supports the local library system.
