Ongoing Extra Table As the federal government shutdown halts SNAP benefits, tens of thousands of Mississippi families are struggling to put food on the table.
Extra Table, a statewide nonprofit based in Hattiesburg that supplies 66 partner food pantries statewide, is stepping up to meet the growing need.
The organization spends $95,000 each month delivering truckloads of healthy, shelf-stable food — and that number must increase to meet demand.
Through its holiday “Bird Campaign,” Extra Table also aims to donate 9,000 whole chickens to families in need.
Mississippians can help by donating at ExtraTable.org or texting FeedMS to 44321, where just $10 can provide up to 40 meals.
Ongoing Food Drive for The Glory House in Laurel Kim’s No Bull has partnered with local businesses to support The Glory House Food Pantry in Laurel.
The team is collecting non-perishable food items to help local families in need this season.
Donation boxes are available in each showroom for items like rice, beans, pasta, and canned goods.

Now until Nov. 16th Lauren Rogers Museum of Art in Laurel Is hosting "Picturing America’s Pastime," a historic baseball photography exhibit in collaboration with the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
The exhibition features a curated selection of photographs spanning 150 years of baseball history, from early team portraits to iconic modern action shots, highlighting the sport’s cultural and historical significance.

Now until Nov. 21st Dixie EPA: Stuff-A-Bucket Truck Events to Support Local Food Pantries
As the holidays approach, local food pantries are struggling to meet the high demand for donations, with many community assistance programs stretched thin.
To help address this critical need, Dixie Electric Power Association is hosting its 2025 "Stuff-A-Bucket Truck" events, inviting shoppers to fill a bucket truck with non-perishable food items to support local families.
Events will be held at the following locations.
\ November 14: Grocery Depot, Laurel — benefiting The Good Samaritan Center
\ November 18 – Ramey’s, Waynesboro — benefiting Samaritan’s Closet and Pantry
\ November 21 – Corner Market, Petal — benefiting Macedonia Baptist Church Food
Each event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with Dixie Electric employees on-site to collect donations directly into the bucket truck.
All contributions will stay local to support the food pantries serving families across the Pine Belt.

Every Sunday until Nov. 30 Rehearsals for Laurel Christmas Community Choir
The choir invites singers ages 14 and up to join in leading carols at the City of Laurel Christmas Tree Lighting during the Cookie Stroll on December 5.

Now until Dec. 1st Auditions for Disney’s "Newsies"
FestivalSouth in Hattiesburg will kick off its 2026 season with Disney’s "Newsies", produced by The Hub City Players.
For the first time, the company is accepting online audition submissions, which are open to post-high-school performers of all genders and backgrounds. Round one requires video submissions of singing and dancing by December 1 -- with selected performers moving on to live auditions December 15 and 16.
The production will be co-produced by Dr. Mike Lopinto and Tammy Mansfield, with Jacob Morris making his directorial debut for HCP and choreography led by DeLovitt Rogers and Tracy Smith. FestivalSouth 2026 will also celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a season of patriotic performances.
Tickets for Disney’s "Newsies" and the full season will go on sale in January 2026. Performances, and FestivalSouth, are scheduled for June of 2026.

Nov. 22nd-25th Timbers Crossing Baptist Church in Ellisville
The church is hosting its first event Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk on November 22 starting at 8 a.m. The race is open to all ages and fitness levels, with official timing, t-shirts for participants, and awards for top finishers.
After the race, attendees can enjoy a Fish Fry and fun jumps, followed by nightly revival services beginning at 6 p.m. through November 25.
All proceeds will support the construction of the church’s permanent home.
